Into the Depths

A girl and her mom move to a seaside town. The girl falls into the waves during a particularly harsh storm and she must journey through the dark depths of the ocean to find her way back.

This title sequence is based on my experience conducting science communication and outreach with The Hua Lab, as well as my first-hand experiences with plastic pollution domestically and abroad.

This show's mission is to entertain and elate audiences through fantastical, dynamic, and stylized marine environments.

Dante & The Depths

Dante & The Depths

”Dante’s Inferno” and its more modern adaptation of “Over the Garden Wall” inspired the storyline of a wanderer moving through circles of an unfamiliar place.

The sequence of the various marine environments echo the circles of Hell that Dante and Virgil traversed in the original work.

The Music

“Young and Menace” by Fall Out Boy

This song’s meaning is tied to growing up without belonging and trying to find your place in the world. The band drew from Britney Spears’ “Oops I Did It Again” with the image of a person being built up and broken down in a world that’s both fantastic and real.

The star of “Into the Depths” goes on a journey through a world that is fantastic and based in the real world in an attempt to find her place in her new town and reconnect with her mother.
